Parents

You’re doing a hard and very important job and it can be stressful. As parents, all of us sometimes need help. At other times, we’re in a position to give it.

Our goal is that wherever you live in Del Norte County, you and your family are supported, connected and have what you need.

What you can do?

Information is power

If you’d like info on parenting kids at different age levels or meetings for parents, check out First5 Del Norte, Family Resource Center of the Redwoods, and Del Norte Child Care Council for resources.

Ask for help in times of crisis

Options like Wraparound Services, Family Stabilizations, and Voluntary Family Maintenance can give families support until they can get back on their feet.

Talk it through with parents in similar situations

Parent Cafes are an opportunity to have structured conversations about parenting issues and shared concerns. This program has been chosen as a strategy in Del Norte County. MOPS & MOMSNEXT is a group for mothers of preschoolers and school-aged children to get together to talk about mom life, get encouragement, and share some (hot) food!

Reach out for assistance

For concrete support, like household goods, organizations like Rural Human Services and Pacific Pantry can help. For housing help, the Family Stabilization program and Housing Services may be able to help.

Concerned for your safety, or your kids?

Harrington House can help with support groups, counseling, emergency shelter, legal services, and a 24 hour hotline at 707-465-3031. Or call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1−800−799−7233.

Being a parent means being on-call 24 hours a day.

For emotional support and empowerment, call the National Parent Hotline at 1-855-4A-PARENT.

Questions about your child’s development?

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) created HealthChildren.org which has information on kids of every age, from toddlers to teens. Read up on everything from toilet training to dating to making friends at school.

Looking for Resources?
